Partner's Appeal
Buddy Bag Foundation

Every year, from 1st July, we have a new District Governor and they are supported in many of their duties by their partner.  As part of this support, the District Governor’s Partner usually launches an appeal to benefit a charity near to their heart.

District Governor’s Partner’s Appeal 2025–26: Supporting the Buddy Bag Foundation UK

As we enter the Lions year 2025–26, we are proud to announce the District Governor’s Partner’s Appeal, led with heartfelt compassion by Lion Jaime Speed. This year, Lion Jaime has chosen to support a cause that speaks directly to the core values of Lions — service, community, and care for the most vulnerable among us. The chosen charity is the Buddy Bag Foundation UK, an organisation making a profound difference in the lives of children fleeing domestic violence.

Why Buddy Bags?

Every year in the UK, over 48,000 children are forced to flee their homes due to domestic abuse. They often leave with nothing — no toys, no clothes, no comfort items — just fear, uncertainty, and trauma. The Buddy Bag Foundation steps in at this critical moment, providing children with a Buddy Bag: a backpack filled with essential items like toiletries, pyjamas, socks, underwear, a book, a cuddly toy, and more. These bags offer more than just practical necessities — they give a child a sense of ownership, security, and most importantly, hope.

Lion Jaime Speed has been deeply moved by the stories of children arriving at shelters with nothing but the clothes on their backs. In choosing to support the Buddy Bag Foundation, Jaime wants to shine a light on these silent, brave young survivors and offer a gesture of comfort and stability during the most traumatic time of their lives.

A Message from Lion Jaime Speed

“As a mother and a Lion, I believe every child deserves to feel safe, valued, and loved. The Buddy Bag Foundation provides not just physical items, but emotional support — a way for a child to feel seen. That’s why this appeal is so close to my heart. Together, we can bring light into the darkest moments of a child’s life.”

How You Can Help

Lions Clubs across the district are encouraged to get involved in any way they can:
 • Fundraising Events – Hold a walk, coffee morning, or raffle to raise funds for more Buddy Bags.
 • Sponsorship – It costs just £25 to fund a single Buddy Bag. Consider club sponsorships or individual donations.
 • Volunteer Sessions – Help pack Buddy Bags at organised events or arrange a club session.
 • Raise Awareness – Share information with your local community, schools, and social media networks.

Each bag is a lifeline — a symbol that someone, somewhere, cares.

Real Lives, Real Impact

Imagine being five years old, waking up in a new place with strangers, and having nothing of your own. For one little girl, her Buddy Bag was the first time in weeks she had smiled. Inside was a teddy she named Hope. That teddy became her comfort in an unfamiliar world — a companion on her journey toward healing.

Stories like these show us the profound power of small acts of kindness.

Let’s Serve Together

This year’s appeal reminds us that while we may not be able to fix everything, we can do something. Through collective compassion and action, Lions can ensure that thousands of children know they are not forgotten.

Let’s support Lion Jaime Speed in making the 2025–26 Partner’s Appeal a beacon of love, healing, and Lion-hearted service.
