District Governor's

Partner's Appeal 2026/27
Mind – Mental Health Charity
Every year, from 1st July, we have a new District Governor and they are supported in many of their duties by their partner.  As part of this support, the District Governor’s Partner usually launches an appeal to benefit a charity near to their heart. This year's charity chosen by Erica Constable is Mind the Mental Health Charity.

Mental health touches every one of us. Whether through our own experiences or those of family, friends, and colleagues, many people face challenges such as anxiety, depression, loneliness, and other mental health difficulties.

The reality is that mental health problems are common, and the demand for support continues to grow. In England, around one in four people experience a mental health problem each year, while one in five adults are affected by conditions such as anxiety or depression in any given week.

This is why, during my year as District Governor's partner in service, I have chosen to support Mind, a leading mental health charity dedicated to ensuring that no one has to face a mental health problem alone.

Mind works through a network of local hubs, providing advice, information, practical support, and campaigning to improve mental health services and reduce stigma. The charity's reach extends across the counties served by Lions District 105CE, including Cambridgeshire, Essex, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Nottinghamshire, Peterborough, and Suffolk. Through local Mind organisations, people across these communities can access vital support tailored to the needs of their area.

One of those local mind hubs serving Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, and South Lincolnshire supported more than 8,000 people during 2024-25. Its impact included over 15,000 hours of one-to-one support for nearly 3,000 individuals, more than 3,200 hours of group activities, over 2,500 hours of online support, and hundreds of hours of training and workshops, including suicide prevention skills training.

These services help individuals manage difficult times, build resilience, and feel connected to their communities. Behind every statistic is a person whose life has been positively impacted through support, understanding, and hope. Whether it is someone receiving advice for the first time, attending a support group, or accessing specialist mental health services, Mind is there to help people take positive steps towards better mental wellbeing.

By supporting Mind, we can help ensure that more people have access to the support they need while encouraging open and compassionate conversations about mental health. Every contribution, whether through fundraising, volunteering, raising awareness, or simply showing kindness to those around us, helps create stronger and more supportive communities.

Together, we can make a real difference and help build a future where no one has to face a mental health problem alone.
