Our Strategic Objective

- 815 million people affected by hunger in 2016: 11% of the global population
- 155 million children under age five are stunted due to chronic malnutrition
- 1/3 of annual food production is lost or wasted throughout the supply chain
- 33% of women of reproductive age suffer from anaemia

Lions Feeding the 5000 - Norwich - 11th October 2026
A Surplus Food Sustainability Celebration
Join Lions Clubs International – District 105CE for a free community celebration of sustainability, food and people coming together. Lions Feed the 5000 Norwich will transform surplus food into delicious hot meals, with the aim of feeding 5,000 people while raising awareness of food waste, environmental action and practical ways to protect our planet.
About Lions Feed the 5000
Each Feed the 5000 event provides members of the public with a delicious free feast made entirely from fresh, top-quality ingredients that would otherwise have gone to waste. The original Feeding the 5000 campaign was created by Feedback, an environmental organisation founded by Tristram Stuart and dedicated to ending food waste while promoting sustainability and resourcefulness across the food chain.
Lions Clubs International – District 105CE has previously organised Feed the 5000 events in Leicester (see below), Colchester and Lincoln. This year, Lions are bringing the event to The Forum in Norwich, combining the goal of feeding 5,000 people with a sustainability showcase.

What to expect
Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy a welcoming mix of food, learning, demonstrations and family-friendly activities. Whether you are interested in reducing food waste, discovering local sustainability initiatives or simply sharing a free meal with others, this event is designed to help people connect, learn and be inspired.
Why it matters
Food waste is one of the most visible ways that resources are lost in everyday life. In the UK, around 10.7 million tonnes of food are wasted each year, including waste from households, farms, manufacturing, food service and retail. Feed the 5000 Norwich will show how good food can be valued, shared and enjoyed instead.
The event will also highlight practical sustainability ideas that visitors can take away and use at home, in their communities and through local volunteering.
Lions in the community
Lions Clubs International is a global service organisation whose members volunteer to improve their communities and support people in need. District 105CE serves communities across Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex, bringing together people who want to give back, build friendships and make a positive difference.
At Lions Feed the 5000 Norwich, visitors will be able to find out more about Lions projects, local volunteering opportunities and the many ways Lions support health, wellbeing, hunger relief, youth, the environment and community resilience.
