Southern Turkey and Syrian Earthquake
You may have seen on the media the sad news of a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that has struck southern Turkey.
The powerful earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria, and the strong aftershocks which followed, has killed more than an estimated 2,000 people and injuring thousands more. This is one of the strongest earthquakes to hit the region in more than 100 years and has devastated entire communities.
When a humanitarian crisis of this magnitude strikes, we, as Lions, are ready to help.
Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) has already mobilised funds, including a US$200,000 Major Catastrophe grant, for Lions in Turkey and other impacted areas to provide earthquake relief activities and to help their communities recover.
The Lions of Turkey have been asked to set up a disaster relief committee comprising of Lions leaders in the affected regions to work on a needs assessment and begin planning for relief projects.
