Working Together to save lives
Lions 105 has joined together with Brain Tumour Research to form the Lions Brain Tumour Research Appeal (Lions BTR), with the aim to raise £1,000,000 to help fund game changing research and raise awareness of brain tumours. Brain Tumour Research want to fund a network of Research Centres around UK.
16,000 people are diagnosed in UK each year with a brain tumour. At any one time there are about 60,000 people living with a brain tumour. Then you can add the families and friends who live it affects. Some of those are Lions.

Fundraise and donate to the Lions Brain Tumour Research Appeal through our District Treasurer.
The Lions BTR Appeal has launched a fundraising campaign called Spinning Wheels, to encourage Lions Clubs and the general population to hold a fundraising event linked to wheels. It could be the obvious – bikes or cars! But to be more imaginative it could involve wheelbarrows, Ferris wheels or even Golf buggies!

- Brain tumours are indiscriminate; they can affect anyone at any age
- Kills more children than Leukaemia
- Kills more men under 45 than prostate cancer
- Kills more women under 35 than breast cancer
- Just 1% of the national spend is allocated to brain tumour research
- AND less than 20% with a diagnosis survives beyond 5 years compared to 50% of other cancers
- Brain tumours can be linked to one Lions Global Causes – Vision. Disturbed vision is often an early symptom. Vision cameras can aid early detection in school children
What research do they do?
- Discover more about the origins of tumours
- Identify mutations in low-grade tumours that dangerously accelerate tumour growth
- Repurpose existing drugs to increase options for targeting brain tumours in children
- Find ways of delivering drugs across the blood-brain barrier to improve treatment
- Help determine strategies to implement more personal treatments for patients
